Memorial Biography

William Frances Laven, 86, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2012. He was born May 27, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Phillip Laven and Frances Kent Laven.

He lived in El Paso for more than 27 years and was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Parish.

He served as a cook in the U.S. Army during WWII.  His cooking was so good that the generals requested he not be sent to Europe.

Bill retired from the Illinois Central Railroad where he worked for 35 years.

His hobbies included golf, bowling and the horses. He was a diehard Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Bill was a dedicated member of the Hueco Golf Association of El Paso and a team member to a chosen few at Fiesta Bowling Lanes. 

He is preceded in death by his brother Philip J. Laven and nephews Kent Laven and Matthew Laven. He is survived by his brother, Roger Laven of La Grange, IL; Nieces Susan Laven of El Paso, TX; Sarah Magnesen of Hinsdale, IL; Annie Beach of Chicago, IL; Nephews Michael Laven, of El Paso, TX; Peter Laven of Little Rock, AR; and Daniel Laven of Flossmoor, IL.
